Please select a module that you would like to play by clicking on the respective icon with the horse. You will then find everything you need on the module page that opens. For participants with limited or no lameness assessment experience, we recommend playing through the modules in numerical order, starting at one. Instructions on how to spot lameness are given in the videos which are at the beginning of each module.

Module 1 | Forelimb lameness

This module teaches the evaluation of forelimb lameness. Forelimb lameness manifests in asymmetry in the vertical movement of the head. You need to detect this asymmetry to detect lameness. You then have to relate the pattern to limb movement to determine which limb is lame. In this module you will learn to:

• Detect forelimb lameness

• Determine the lame limb

• Correctly differentiate between sound and mildly lame horses

Module 2 | Simple hind limb lameness

This module teaches the basic evaluation of hind limb lameness. Hind limb lameness manifests in asymmetry in the vertical movement of the pelvis. In this module, movement of the pelvis has been simplified to vertical translation, without the hip rotating. You will learn to:

• Detect hind limb lameness based on vertical displacement asymmetry

• Determine the lame limb

• Correctly differentiate between sound and mildly lame horses

Module 3 | Realistic hind limb lameness

In this module, hind limb lameness is more complex: movement of the pelvis is realistic, consisting of both translation and rotation. While being able to practice the first approach your learnt in Module 2 (the 'mid-pelvis' method), you will learn a second assessment approach (the 'hips' method). You will learn to:

• Detect hind limb lameness based on realistic hip movement

• Determine the lame limb based on vertical displacement asymmetry or comparative movement of the hips

• Correctly differentiate between sound and mildly lame horses

Module 4 | Mixed evaluation session

This module lets you practice your new skills on 500f horses with different colours. You will examine horses for both, fore- and hind limb lameness and also give the horses lameness scores. This modeule contains the 2-year caseload of some lameness experts! You will learn to:

• Correctly evaluate different horses for lameness irrespective of their fur colour

• Assign consistent lameness scores
